Classical CD Ripping Service

Handling a classical collection requires special consideration. iTunes and its database offer excellent basic facilities but for the discerning music lover there can be major limitations.

The key areas to consider are format and compression rate then genre, composer, track data and album art.

Format
Classical music lovers typical demand the best sound quality and this tips the balance in favour of the higher-end music codecs such as Apple Lossless or AIFF.

Compression Rates
If you don’t go for Apple Lossless or AIFF then compression rate is an important factor. Essentially you should opt for AAC over, say, MP3 because it holds more data for the same compression rate. Then you should opt for 256 Kbps over 128 Kbps, which is our default setting.

Genre
iTunes simply describes all classical music as ‘Classical’. If you wish we can break this into more meaningful genres - we can select those ourselves or work to your criteria.

Composer
If you rip your CDs yourself you’ll see multiple variations on composers names - Mozart plus W A Mozart plus Mozart W A and so on. Consequently its hard to access music by composer. Our Data Grooming service resolves this by standardising on the surname of 100 classical composers.

Track Data
If you have a specific requirement about how conductors, soloists and orchestras are listed please let us know.

Album Art
It can be very difficult to find album art for classical albums. Although we use several software packages to locate and download album art we can seldom reach the level and accuracy we achieve with pop music, but we do our best.

Special Requirements
We know our classical music loving clients have special needs so when we collect your CDs just let us know exactly how you want your music handled.
