The idea for what is now podServe came to me in 2003, the summer my son graduated from university. He thought he’d treat himself to an iPod.
I asked him how he was going to get all his CDs onto it, he didn’t know. So I looked into how you load music onto an iPod. It’s time consuming, boring, fiddly, and initially more difficult th

I thought - I could do that for them.
Over the next few months I toyed with the CD to iPod idea, spoke to friends, visited stores selling iPods and listened to the inadequate advice being given. I designed and tested a process and in February 2004 podServe went live.
I’d like to say we lived happily ever after. Sometimes it’s hard to believe how long we’ve been ripping CDs, how many iPods we’ve looked after, and yes it really is our seventh year.
The original model has changed beyond recognition. I quickly found it was vital to collect CDs in person, particularly when collections hit the 100+ level. Thanks to clients requests we’ve added new features - audiobooks, album art, scanning photos, converting videos and then Data Grooming. As demand has grown our initial two PCs (long since replaced) have grown to a bank of six systems, all optimised for music CD ripping.
Although the majority of our clients own Apple iPods we’ve moved into high-end audio systems such as Sonos, iMerge and Opus.
My background?
I started in the computer industry in the late 70s. I have a lot of experience with Macs and PCs, I enjoy music, podServe is an ideal mix of the two.
Why podServe?
Serve, as in service, is what we’re about - picking up your CDs in person, returning them in person, collecting in the evening because that suits most people better. We talk plain English rather than techno-babble. I’m proud of what we do, I think we do a great job.
